Japan Karate Association (JKA)
The Japan Karate Association (JKA), established in 1955, stands as one of the oldest global organizations for Shotokan karate. Recognized and approved by the Japanese Government, the JKA holds the unique status of being the only legal entity promoting Karate as a public interest association. Today, under the leadership of Shuseki Shihan Masaaki Ueki Sensei 10th Dan, the JKA World Federation (JKA/WF) is the world’s largest and most esteemed Shotokan Karate organization, spanning over 125 countries. Our Karate Pro Academy is an official branch of JKA/WF, aligning with this prestigious legacy.
Our Masters
Sensei Gichin Funakoshi (1868–1957), recognized as the Father of Modern Karate, he founded Shotokan karate-do. Born in Okinawa, he was among the influential Okinawan karate masters introducing the art to the Japanese mainland in the early 20th century. He played a crucial role in popularizing and formalizing karate as a disciplined martial art. He taught karate at various Japanese universities and became honorary head of the Japan Karate Association upon its establishment in 1949.
Sensei Masatoshi Nakayama (1913–1987), a prominent figure in the development and popularization of Shotokan karate. He was the chief instructor of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) and played a crucial role in spreading Shotokan karate internationally. Nakayama Sensei was known for his contributions to karate literature, including the co-authorship of the “Best Karate” series. His teachings and efforts significantly influenced the technical standards and curriculum of Shotokan karate, making him a respected figure in the martial arts community.
Shihan Masaaki Ueki (81years old) is the current chief instructor of Japan Karate Association. He is a multiple JKA All Japan Grand Champion. He is the first living 10th Dan in JKA history. As head of the JKA, Masaaki Ueki continues to travel the world, giving seminars to JKA members. Now in his 80s, his techniques remain exceptional. He provides a direct link to the origins of Shotokan Karate.
